Up till this point I’ve been putting up each month’s listings as they come in, assigning each a post date between the first and fifth of the month (to preserve a consistent order). The problem with that is that each entry looks very empty at the point that it goes up, and it’s a bother to remember to check back later on. Backdating (as is the case half the time) also means entries don’t automatically appear (via Networked Blogs) in fans’/friends’ newsfeeds on FB, which is also a bother. From now on, I’ll instead be posting the listings for each month in the last five days of the month, rather than the first five–so don’t think this blog is dead just because the next updates may be a while coming.

Also, I’ve been having to do quite a bit of googling and such on my own in order to find stuff to list. Only a handful of writers and readers have actually got in touch to notify me of things I should include. If you find RP useful, or at least interesting, I do hope you’ll drop me a line, through any channel, to help me keep it up to date. Cheers.

I try to remain invisible here for the most part, but here’s another project I’m involved in which might be of some interest:

Storm Glass: Singapore Poets Before Their First Books

Firstfruits publications seeks submissions of poetry in English from Singapore poets who have yet to publish a full-length, single-author collection of poetry. Selected work will appear in an anthology to be published next year. All submissions must be sent before 1st September 2010.

Guidelines:

Only email submissions will be accepted. Send 6-8 poems to stormglass.antho[at]gmail[dot]com, either as a single attachment (.rtf or .doc only–no .docx files, please) or, if your poems’ formatting will not suffer for it, as text in the body of your email. Title your email “SUBMISSION: [Your Name Here]“. At least half the poems submitted must be previously unpublished. Simultaneous submissions are permitted without reservations.

Please do not include a cover letter at this time, but do include your name, home or mobile telephone number, and a statement declaring that you fulfill both criteria for this anthology. A biographical note will be requested if your submission is successful.

Mini-FAQ:

Q: Who is a “Singapore poet”?
A: Anyone who considers themselves such, within reason.

Q: What is a “full-length, single-author collection of poetry”?
A: Any book of poetry by a single writer exceeding 48 printed pages in extent, published in print or in the form of an e-book available for sale. Self-published collections do count.

Q: Will the poets included be paid?
A: There are no plans to pay contributors at the moment, although they will receive at least one free copy of the anthology. Firmer details will be available at a later date.

Q: When can I expect a response?
A: Submissions, successful or unsuccessful, will be responded to on an ongoing basis. All responses will be sent within a month of the close of open submissions.

Q: What rights will I be transferring to you?
A: Only anthology rights. In non-legalese, you’ll be allowing us to publish your poems in this anthology and this anthology only. All other rights remain with you, though we request that you credit Storm Glass and firstfruits publications in the event that a poem that first appeared in the anthology is reprinted elsewhere.

Q: [Some other question]
A: Email your query to the same address listed above. Title your email “QUERY”.

Please do circulate this call to anyone you think might be interested. If you’re on Facebook, you can join the Storm Glass page here to receive updates on its progress.

I look forward to reading your poems.

all best,

Nicholas Liu
Editor
